the Code of Doug
I've always wanted to distill true principles about life and apply them. At various points I've come up with statements that I called by the name "Code of Doug." The whole thing is a work in progress and this one is not complete. But I thought I might as well put up a link to what I have. Perhaps the knowledge that it is up there in its imperfect form will help me to complete it more effectively. Anyway, I'll link to it from the side of the page.

fixed-now we'll see if I can fix the habit.
Bart and I were just reading it together and he mentioned that he must be spelling it wrong and so we looked it up and that was the first thing to come up on google. It just made me laugh. I thought your code was excellent.
Thanks for reading and helping me get it right.
I went through and fixed a couple more typos.
I love your code. It is one we could all use. I think I'll share it with Andrew and George, especially Andrew. Thank you for sharing. I'm interested to see what changes (additions?) there are over time.
Thanks, Mom. That means a lot, especially from you.
It's funny. This code isn't me and it isn't perfect or even all the way true yet. But I still care about it.
I love you.
Doug
(no idea whether or not you'll ever see this comment cuz I just found your blog today and I'm in catch-up mode. But here goes...)
I like how you've claimed independent ownership of your Code. When I read your code, I saw parts of you in it.
I think I understand all of it; I can relate to some of it; and I agree with most of it. I found it interesting reading because if there were a "Code of Joe" I could easily adopt some of yours; though other parts would need to be altered to varying degrees. Since we are individuals, we need individual Codes. Not because there aren't universal truths. In direct opposition to one of my favorite professors, I believe there are universal truths. I also believe that our individuality causes us to view/understand/perceive/etc. those universal truths in different ways because we see them through the lenses of our own paradigms molded by our individual experiences.
Anyway, it was very fun to read. Thank you for sharing.
Hey, Joe! Welcome to the blog. I have it set so that I get an email when someone comments so that I don't miss it.
I think you are right: it's an individual thing. And for me it isn't finished yet--just like I'm not finished yet.
Let me know if you write one up.
Doug
